Industry Bullshit - This post has nothing to do with Breast Feeding; to each their own. I just wanted to point out that this Time Cover Image is a perfect example of “Bad Styling.” Even the Writers at Saturday Night Live had to agree. Camo pants? A wooden studio chair? A young mother that looks like a Yoga model? The entire “shoot” is toooo posed and entirely too – Fake. Any woman that has breast feed knows – this ain’t reality. I honestly feel sorry for the Magazine. I think this is a matter of – “is someone going to speak up and say something.” Personally – I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve told the art director, the client or the subject, “this looks like crap – what are we saying here?”

A Good Example of Bad Styling

Behind the Scenes - A little more Behind the Scenes with Lindsey Vonn for Peaks Magazine.

Tearsheets - I had to travel all the way to The Car Wash Show in Las Vegas to receive these, but posted below is about two or three years worth of tearsheets from Mark VII Industries.

Mark VII Tearsheets

My Photography - I’ve always joked that I hope one of my “athlete subjects” becomes an OJ Simpson = famous for a serious crime, but I never hoped Chris Andersen would be charged with Child Pornography? The charges are preliminary, but Man – Honestly, I think I’d rather he was accused of murder. Update: Sounds like a case of extortion: Read – http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/chris-birdman-andersen-could-target-extortion-224756706.html

Video Assignment/Behind the Scenes - I love flying to Las Vegas from Denver during the day; it’s such a beautiful flight. Jim Yost and I spent a very, very long day traveling out to Las Vegas (and back to Denver) to create video interviews, bts footage and stills at The Car Wash Show 2012 held at the Sands Convention Center. Normally, I’d spend a few days in Vegas gambling and visiting hookers (lol), but Jim and I decided we’d better save some money (our own – not the clients), cut our loses and travel back to Denver to sleep in our own beds. Highlight/Lowlight of the trip: telling Vegas’ TSA how incompetent they are; seriously, what a bunch of idiots. BTY – when American’s are subjected to the “Stupidity” that IS the TSA – the Terrorist have won. Why have Body Scanners IF – the system is so fallible that TSA MUST do a pat down as well? And … “TSA, I want the many Luggage Straps, TSA Approved Locks (yeah right) and miscellaneous things that you have “stolen” from me over the past 13 years. BTS = Video Tip: LEDs suck. Unless you are in a completely black room, can place the LED within 12 – 18 inches of your subject or enjoy grainy, noisy video footage. I prefer equipment that DOES WHAT I TELL IT – rather than me “adapting” to the equipments inadequacies. Booooo to LEDs. Personally – I’ll go back to 2000 watt hot lights and softboxes. Travel Tip: Southwest will allow over weight bags IF you provide them with a “PRESS Credential.” A Business Card won’t work – you must use something that reads – PRESS. LOL. My 10 year old (expired) ASMP card worked simply because it reads “PRESS” in big red letters. LOL. I love SouthWest and can’t say the same for any other airline. Pass the Word.

Lesson Learned: Create a “shot list” and no matter how tired you become – stick to “the list” or you’ll miss important footage/scenes. Arrrrggggg.

Video Assignment - Spent an evening at the Denver Museum of Natural History creating vDSLR footage for my friend and colleague Josh Gold for Julie and Justin’s  Big Jewish Wedding. *Final video will be posted after post production and client release.
