Okaloosa Island, Florida. Christmas & New Years 2009. Most holidays or vacations necessitate leaving “the professional camera” at home; I live, breath and eat with my camera 11 months + of the year…I need a break sometimes. But this holiday I decided to bring my DVSLR camera along because of it’s high definition video capabilities. At least I did not produce any photo shoots involving crew, models and art direction this holiday…although I was tempted!

“My college buddies will freak out” when they learn of the liberal Marijuana laws of Colorado. From what I understand…possession of 1 ounce or less in Denver County results in a small fine…or warning. When I started my Medical Marijuana: Patients and Caregivers project over two years ago, I was met with opposition and skepticism…even paranoia…I was ‘forced’ to stop. “Dude, I can’t have my picture taken…are you serious?” Today, I have patients, caregivers and dispensary owners lining-up to be photographed. Two years ago there was one medical marijuana dispensary in the Denver area, today there are more than 75 and the number grows everyday. There are three within walking distance of my studio. Colorado’s medical marijuana card holders are entitled to purchase two ounces of marijuana per day and possess up to six flowering plants. I support the use of marijuana as an alternative to pain killers and anxiety drugs. I have two friends that are confined to wheelchairs and three that are addicted to anxiety medicine. All of them, prefer the calming effects of marijuana to the nauseating effects of prescription drugs. Check back for images and videos in future posts.

-Anytime I visit New York City, Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco or Miami for business, I return to Denver raving, “I’m moving…I’m outta here.” I just love the “buzz” and the “hustle” of these larger cities not to mention the many career opportunities. This past trip to New York City was not my first and it will not be my last. Previous visits to NYC always involved JFK, a car service, photo assistants, some obscure Manhattan location, a Times Square hotel, another car service back to JFK and a early flight back to Denver. A typical fly in and fly out -style assignment. This assignment was different in the sense that I was able to spend a few hours over a period of four days exploring and photographing the city. Visit November 2009 post for assignment details.

Jane Krakowski of NBC’s 30 Rock for Cynthia Parsons McDaniel, Celebrity Booking Agent. Jenna Maroney is one of my favorite 30 Rock characters…funny and beautiful…what a combination. Images were created on Central Park South in New York City prior to the Macy’s 83rd Thanksgiving Day Parade. “Pardon me, would you mind ‘snapping’ a few images of Jane for me…..I’ll pay you?” “By the way, I hired you because you look like a professional.” It’s funny how utilizing a lens hood and placing your camera strap around your neck can make you appear more professional. On the other hand, it could be the result of photographing Boys Like Girls, Mitchel Musso, and KeKe Palmer only moments earlier. Visit November 2009 post for details.

Update: “…she (Jane Krakowski) will flip out…thanks again. Did you send another business card with your prints?…how generous of you to do this for her. She will be most appreciative. I am beyond grateful to you. Lets figure out an event I can invite you to! Call me sometime…you are tooooo kind.” -Cynthia Parsons McDaniel
